Not sure these guys could've been any sweeter! They truly love each other and as a mom of an older daughter and a younger son, this was HOPEFULLY a glimpse of things to come. H and M were so happy together - like best friends! A true gift that every parent dreams of!

H was a total trooper! She was completely into the photo session and put on a great smile even though it was absolutely FREEZING outside! I think that even if we had her in the water, she would have had the same gorgeous smile on her face. She was like working with a true professional and I loved every moment of it!

M is absolutely adorable. His freckles were AWESOME and he has this great infectious personality! A very genuine person, very warm, friendly and was willing to do just about anything I asked him to do! He didn't even put up much of a fight when I asked him to plant a kiss on his big sister's cheek for a photo. Super sweetie!!!

Add in two amazing locations, and I think that's a recipe for an exceptional photo session. These two kids were a complete and total pleasure to work with. Great kids, warm (personality, not outside!!!) kids, and NICE kids! Way to go Mom!!!

Boy meets girl.....

Boycourts girl through high school, college and several moves throughout thecountry. And then he enters a contest to win an incredibly beautifulengagement ring from Tapper's Jewelry Store.

Eand M have quite an amazing love story. It started back in high school(to know me is to know that I'm a sucker for couples that meet in highschool. These two actually DATED in high school. So cute!). You can read the whole story here.

Well...whenwe found out that E won the ring, we were asked how late we were going to be atthe studio that evening. When we asked why and were given the answer, weJUMPED at the opportunity to photograph an engagement.

At7:30, Tracie from Tapper's came down to get us. We all but ran down thehallway (with our super excited 12 year old and 10 year olds in tow - they werealmost as excited as we were!). We walked into Tapper's and waited whileE and M were "interviewed" one last time. It was really adiversion tactic that E set up so that his whole family, M's whole family andwe could get down to the store to be able to photograph the question being popped.

When the door opened, and E and M cameout, M saw everyone around. E got down on one knee with an opened ringbox, and asked M to marry him.

I was teary, my daughter was teary,both moms were teary, E was teary....you get the picture! And ya knowwhat? SO DID I!!!

This was such an incredible event to bea part of! There's nothing like the beginning of something absolutelybeautiful. Family, love and diamonds.... Does it get any betterthan that???

Hail to..... wait - which?

I couldn't resist this one.... One more little "buy local" rant and then I'll (try to) leave it alone for a while.

As a follow up to my "Meditations on Buying Local" post, this shirt appeared on this link at Rivals.com....

I'm sure many of you saw this already since a lot of people got a kick out of it and posted it on facebook especially here in Michigan where we are based. For those of you who aren't in Michigan and may not know, Michigan State University's team name is the Spartans and their colors are green and white, but the University Of Michigan Wolverines' fight song contains the opening line "Hail to the Victors" and their colors are maize and blue. Needless to say this was a pretty bad mistake to mix them up and put them on the same t-shirt. I hate to sound like a broken record but putting your loyalties aside for a second and your urge to talk some smack if you're a Wolverine or a Spartan, what this really is is a commercial for buying LOCAL. Do you think a local Michigan based t-shirt company would make a mistake as ridiculous as this? No way. Why would you want your school's logo hijacked by some national corporate brand like this that doesn't have a clue about it?

Now granted college athletics is huge business and national brands Adidas and Nike are the official outfitters of the sports teams at the two schools so you can't really avoid buying the apparel from a national company. That's the way it is. But I think the point here is there are local independent retailers you can support that sell licensed t-shirts with your alma mater on them who would never make a mistake like this. Local merchants have a feel for the local community and have a vested interest in it. National chains....not as much as evidenced by this shirt. Maybe that is a generalization that isn't 100% fair, but c'mon. This actually made it to their website. Not one person at Pink cared enough or bothered to check on this? A business sports reporter actually pointed it out to Victoria's Secret which is what prompted them to pull it off the site. Once again our message is not to boycott national chain stores, but rather in a case like this let Pink stick to what they do best and when you are considering buying some gear for your local team consider a local option first. If Pink bothered to get the shirt right and you could buy Pink products from local merchants then I guess it would be different, but they didn't and you can't.

Such a beautiful couple! No wonder they have two stunning kiddos!

The D family was in the studio a few weeks ago and did we have the BEST time!!! Seriously, I think we laughed for the entire session. Doug and J bonded over football in the good old days and K and I bonded over football and how the boys are SO enthralled with it! It makes a good session great when you can chat about common interests!

And then there were the kids.... J and K are so photogenic and so funny! They had me in stitches with their karate poses and attempts at blowing great big bubbles from their new package of Bubble Yum.

Isn't she a beauty? What an angel face! Such a sweetheart!!!

Hands down, one of the most amazing smiles from a young man. Mr. Personality here!!

The session ended with a bunch of high fives and hugs all around. You just gotta love when clients leave from the session and you talk about them for the rest of the night. All good things, of course! Like how they're the kind of people you'd like to be friends with...good, kind, nice people.

Oh! And it doesn't hurt that ALL four of them are VERY EASY on the eyes... :)

Thankfulness

We have been in our studio space here in the Orchard Mall for about three years now and we really are living our dream. It hasn't always been easy building a young business but it's been a labor of love for sure, and today on the day after Thanksgiving was one of those days when you just realize how thankful you are.

We are humbled by the opportunity to be a part of the lives of our people who we lovingly refer to as the "frameables". We had so many people come by the studio to visit us over the last couple days - especially our high school seniors - some who are still in high school and just had a couple days off and some who are home visiting from college. They all make us smile!

When new parents bring babies to the studio to photograph and back to visit and photograph as they grow up, when a wonderful 90 year old lady brings a 90 year old photo in to restore and tells us stories, when families come together from out of town and gather in our studio to allow us to be a part of that reunion and document it for posterity, when a dog owner brings in their best friend for a session, these are the moments that have given us so much.

We are thankful for you. All of you. Thank you so much.

Meditations on Buying Local...

BUY LOCAL - you hear this everywhere right? Save our local economy! It's pervasive. There are facebook and LinkedIn groups devoted to the idea, politicians throw the issue around to try to make each other look better than the opponent knowing that it's an emotional hot button for their constituents, businesses remind you at every turn almost as a sales pitch to get you to come in and buy something in their store. You start to become numb to it.

Listen - it's certainly an important issue to us being a local business ourselves but I like to keep these posts a bit lighter and more fun. I don't want to be a downer and I certainly don't want to get on a soap box to beat you over the head again to shop local..... (hmmmm wait Doug - this isn't a typical light fun Frameable Faces blog post - seems you already went there). Sorry. Big exhale..... Okay - I'm just gonna go with it then. But I'm going to try to make it as painless as possible.

The fact is there were three different things that put this in my head this week in particular which is why I'm thinking about it and felt the need to blog about it. The first thing happened at our last Orchard Mall tenants meeting. One of our fellow tenants alerted all of us to a project and website called The 3/50 Project whose mission is to strengthen independent brick and mortar businesses. What I like about this is that it appears to be a very sensible and practical call to action. The "3/50" part refers to the suggestion that everyone pick out 3 local businesses they would miss if they closed and commit to spending $50 per month collectively at those businesses. The studies suggest that for every 100 dollars spent at a local business 68 of them return to the community. For every 100 spent at a national chain only 43 stays here, and for every 100 spent online none of it stays here. Makes you think.

The second thing happened in Birmingham the other day while we were there photographing a senior. We drove past the Varsity Shop which is a sporting goods store that has been there since I was a kid. It is a small corner store that certainly would seem to be a relic from a bygone era when you compare it to stores like Dick's and The Sports Authority not to mention Target, Meijer, Wal-Mart and all the other big box stores who sell sporting goods. I don't know the people at the Varsity Shop and I haven't been in there forever. I don't know what they specialize in and I have no stake in spotlighting them, but my point is when I pondered how they've managed to stay in business when so many others couldn't it dawned on me - they certainly didn't do it because I shop there. I felt a pang of guilt - I have good memories of that place and they deserve better from me. Now to totally beat myself up over this isn't fair because I do buy local - a lot. And with online commerce and the economies of scale that a Target or a Costco brings to the table I'd be nuts to not make sure I looked for the best deals from time to time as we try to support our family with a still-young business in this wonderful economy of ours. Indeed, the 3/50 Project doesn't suggest you stop buying from chains, they just suggest that you make sure your healthy balance includes a helping of local merchants. I personally think I can do better and I'm going to buy something from the Varsity Shop when I get a chance. Meanwhile the Orchard Mall is filled with many local merchants. We've got a Panera here sure (love their breakfast power sandwich - hold the ham, extra egg), but we've also got a couple local eateries, a very cool local toy store, a couple boutiques, a linen store, clothing stores, a bridal couture, a dance studio, a locally based supermarket chain, a jeweler, a gift shop, a few spa/salons - all local. Most of the businesses here are local and not many malls can say that.

The third thing that happened was we received a nice thank you gift from a Michigan based company we order our albums from called Finao (the link is to their blog and much of it is targeted at their clients who are professional photography studios like us - lots of shop talk). This made us feel great and appreciated - this company really gets it. A very inspiring move on their part. It makes us happy to do business with such a great company and it gives us even greater comfort that they are based in Michigan and everything they produce is made from stuff made in the USA. This is not by accident - we have always made a point of using local vendors for the business wherever possible and most of our vendors - our framer, our printer, our canvas folks and many others are based in Michigan.

So, I suppose if I had to give myself a grade with an "A" representing a full commitment to spending as many of my dollars as possible with local businesses (within reason), and being conscious of it whenever I make my choices of what to purchase, I would probably give myself a "B". I can do better. What about you?

Samira's Baking Journey

We've had the good fortune to be called upon for some very interesting photo shoots over the years and we thought it would be fun to share some "frameable things" - not just faces...

So cue the music - "These are a few of our frameable things....."

You've probably seen or heard us gushing about Samira Cholagh and her cookbooks, one of which (Treasured Middle Eastern Cookbook) is available at our studio here in the Orchard Mall in West Bloomfield. We met Samira in 2009 as she was working extremely hard on her third book, and she needed someone to photograph the dishes she was going to feature. A special friendship was born (Believe that - Doug and food? Do you know Doug?) as we spent a good chunk of that summer at Samira's home photographing and eating. It was incredible - this book focuses mostly on baking so we were eating pies, tarts, pastries, and cookies pretty much daily..... oy. Samira is the genuine article - sweet, generous, full of life, and her recipes are fantastic. We think the Food Network needs to discover her and have a show that focuses on middle eastern cuisine. Indeed, her show Samira's Kitchen can be seen on MEA TV & Radio every Thursday at 7:00 PM and you can go to her YouTube channel or Middle Eastern American TV & Radio for more details.

We were very excited to see Samira on Detroit's Fox 2 News again yesterday morning doing a cooking demonstration and promoting the new book A Baking Journey, and you can watch the clip from the show right HERE from the myFOXdetroit website!

Blogging Revisited

So..... we had a meeting with my friend and new guru Melissa Brodsky this morning and I am very excited! You see, Missy is an incredible and very accomplished writer and blogger and she knows her way around social media. I've mentioned her blog www.rockanddrool.com before and if you don't follow it then you can't be my friend anymore. Okay maybe that was a little strong. But you really should check it out - it's fantabulous.

As most of you know I spend a lot of time updating our facebook pages and scouring the web for cool content that I think y'all will enjoy and get some use from. I tweet, I set us up with a page on LinkedIn and connect with people there, I've got Frameable Faces going on Foursquare, Yelp, YouTube......

It's now time to revisit and take our blog seriously.

Little by little our online presence has morphed and grown quite a bit and this blog will once again become an important piece to the puzzle that should allow us a more robust platform and outlet for our creative energies (read - Doug can write and post more stuff), help us expand our reach, and help tie the strategy together.

All of those details might not mean a ton to all of you, but I know there are a decent number of frameables who are into this subject and regardless we just like to let you know what we're doing and why. The blog gives us some additional flexibility and another way to build relationships online. We will continue to post on facebook and we will let you know when there is something to see here (which will be often) and we will ask you to continue to leave your comments, feedback, questions and come along for the ride! Feel free to leave a comment below and let us know what you think! The frameables are the reason we are here and we look forward to giving back to you!

Frameable Food at Zoe's House of Pancakes!

Anyone who has spent considerable time at Frameable Faces knows that we are total foodies and it's not uncommon for there to be food in the studio - lots of food. So when we had the opportunity to photograph the new menu items at Zoe's House Of Pancakes here at The Orchard Mall we salivated at the opportunity (pun intended). What a morning that was - photographing and feasting for hours until we couldn't move. Flash forward a few months and the new menu is official with our images gracing the cover and the back! As for the food, I truly believe Zoe's has elevated their game significantly with the new items. Zoe's has always been a very good breakfast joint with a really good whole wheat pancake option, some yummy specialty items like pumpkin pancakes, the chicken pomodoro omelete and they've always had good lunch too. However in my opinion they have become the premier breakfast option on the block with the new items they have added. My favorite is the Chilaquiles - tortillas, chicken, and salsa verde on top of hash browns and cheese with scrambled eggs on top - soooo good. The Huevos Rancheros is great too - love the latin flavor choices! As for the pancakes - Red Velvet Pancakes!!! They are quite delectable and I've never seen these anywhere before. The carrot cake pancakes are unique too, and the very berry cream cheese stuffed french toast is out of this world. Yes I've tried all of these already - all in one morning actually.... (oy). This morning we went there and I ordered the Chilaquiles since that was the one I remembered being the most excited about and it was as good as I remembered. Meanwhile I'm always on the lookout for a good Maurice salad for lunch and they have now added that as well. It's very exciting for me to be able to walk down the hall and get one - haven't tried that yet but I will report back once I do! Conclusion: Eat at Zoe's - and then come by and say hello after you do!

Google gets "image conscious" - Here's a fun game - wanna play?

Google recently updated the Google "images" search engine, and since I spend a decent amount of time on the Internet researching new ideas for Frameable Faces Photography, checking out blogs, and yes - finding artwork to fill in my cover flow blanks in my iTunes using Google images, it occurred to me that while I don't think I love the new "images" format so much it could make for a very fun game to pass around...

Go to google, click on images in the upper left hand corner of the screen, and google yourself. The game is to find out 1) how many images show up in the results before you actually see a picture of yourself, 2) what is the picture of you a picture from, and 3) what is the most ridiculous image or images that appear in the results before you actually show up? This could be fun to do on facebook and feel free to tag 5 friends to see what their results are... In Frameable Faces terminology I guess you could say that this is Google's search engine measure of how Frameable you are? I showed up in the 38th image in a picture from my 20th high school reunion with Julie (Garczynski) Lewis and Amy (Meneilley) Bloom. No idea how that showed up as the best result of me on the web - quite random... although I could have done much worse than being displayed with two beautiful girls! Oh and there was a picture of Gollum from Lord Of The Rings and one of Dick Cheney before they actually got to me.... Yeah yeah I know - I look a little like Gollum I'm sure. Save your comments... :-)

Frameable Faces - What's In A Name?

For some time Ally went by "Allyson Cohen Photography" before changing the name to Frameable Faces Photography. At the risk of sounding a little corny, Frameable Faces for us genuinely means many things and we thought we would share...

Community

It's not just about Ally which is one of the reasons the change was made in the first place. Frameable Faces is a place - it's a physical studio and a business true, but it only works because it's more than that. It is really a community - all of you! The smiling and frameable faces of the people who pass in front of Ally's lens make up Frameable Faces Photography. You are all a part of it and it wouldn't exist without you. You ARE the frameable faces.

Lifestyle

Sure we take pictures and capture memories here, but we try to promote the idea that being "frameable" is an attitude and even a lifestyle. People are here because they live life to the fullest - otherwise they wouldn't be looking to have it photographed. Sometimes people walk through our doors hesitantly - they don't think they are photogenic. Those people deserve a lot of credit for overcoming their doubts and getting in front of the camera, and they end up discovering how frameable they really are. Is your attitude, your family, your life, your smile, your face worth displaying on a wall (or on a purse or in an album)?

Fun

We think the name is fun. It makes us smile, and taking pictures should be fun. We even think our little flower in the logo is fun (don't ask us how it evolved into our little trademark symbol because we're not really sure - but it seems to fit). We enjoy meeting so many wonderful people and getting to know our peeps, staying in touch, watching their children grow and celebrating life's milestones. Sometimes it's downright hilarious (like when a newborn baby poops on Ally).

So there you have it. Yep - it's sugary sweet but it is what it is!

Top 6 things I've learned about facebook (mostly in the past week)

So it's social right? Demented and sad, but social. Okay so it's not really demented and sad, but I watched The Breakfast Club twice in the last week and I just needed an excuse to use that line - maybe my next post will be my top 10 favorite lines from that movie...but I digress... The topic for this blog post is facebook - the most popular social media site on the Internet. Actually it's the most popular site period - overtaking Google last week for the number one spot.

You have probably noticed that we launched a new facebook page this week, and there are many reasons for that. I've been doing a lot of research and and I thought I would share a list of 6 important tidbits I've picked up in my research that we've applied to our own web presence:

1. There is a HUGE difference between a facebook group and a facebook page (or public profile depending on what they are calling it this week). Bottom line - a page is best for your small business if you are a business owner and/or are authorized to create a page for your employer as the facebook administrator. NOT a group.

2. Pages are searchable outside of facebook. Groups are not. That's just one of many reasons to stick with the page.

3. Every page you manage can have its own facebook URL. It's simple - just go to www.facebook.com/username and choose "Set a user name for your pages". The rest is self explanatory. Ours is www.facebook.com/frameablefaces. Please become a fan and suggest the page to your friends (especially if you live in the Metro Detroit area)!

4. App developers charge more than I expected for facebook page design.

5. www.allfacebook.com is a great blog for all things facebook

6. Most "social media experts" will tell you that having a social media presence is critical and that facebook is probably not enough, but trying to have a presence on every single social media site is too much and to "just make sure you are where your customers are". I agree with them on all counts. We stick to facebook, twitter, YouTube, the blog you are reading now, and our official website.

This barely scratches the surface. Part of the genius of facebook is that it's a platform that everyone can use - from the Internet and computer novice to the most advanced developer, and it's constantly changing - they are tweaking features (many of which the average person won't notice) on a daily basis. It's incredibly powerful, incredibly complex, and yet incredibly simple to use all at the same time. You can gain much on a personal level and you cannot afford not to use it for your business - end of story. If you are a small business and don't have a social media presence you will likely be left in the dust...

On Saturday, I got to work with such a pretty little girl. Baby S was so good in the studio. She pretty much let me do whatever I wanted and even though our session was shorter than I typically like newborn sessions to be, we did get some absolutely beautiful images.

But it's time to start thinking about Mother's Day! Yeah, yeah, I know Valentine's Day was just yesterday, but it's never too early to start thinking of Mom.

Yeah, that one.

High school juniors wanted/needed!!!

So seeing as today's a snowday here in Detroit, I thought it'd be a perfect time to get this out there again. Everyone seems to be online or on Facebook, so I thought "Hey! This is great timing!!!"

You know, that Van Halen song? Or is it just David Lee Roth? Either way, that song's been going through my head since I photographed these two. They are definitely beautiful! I've posted a few from them before, but here's the real "sneak peak."

I don't know if I could've even put a model search out that would have brought me better models than these two. A and S are so pretty and were so great in the studio. They were totally on their game and were perfect models! I was telling Doug that when we get some new props in or just need some models for some new images in the studio, A and S are at the tippy top of our list! LOVED working with them!

Since we've been back from Imaging USA in Nashville, we've been busy working and trying to figure out how to make the Frameable Faces experience better for everyone. We've brought on some new products, started bringing some new ideas to the table and are taking a consultative approach to making sure that we're delivering exactly what our clients are asking for.

One of the things we've been able to do is this...we've actually dropped our prices! Yep! You read right!!! We've partnered with another lab for our larger prints and even upped our quality by doing so. The new lab has offered us much better pricing than the one we used previously and as a result, we're extending that to you, our loyal Frameables! :)

I always keep my promises!

And I promised Miss A that I'd post an image of her with her yellow dress on. She initially didn't want to wear it, but persistence prevailed and she was soon donning her pretty yellow dress.

The whole session was simply stunning. A is an excellent big sister and she clearly loves her baby sister S so much! It was so sweet to watch them together! There a bunch more images to show, but I'm running out of the studio right now. Be on the look out for some new sneak peak options. They may very well be after the ordering session but I promise, it'll be SO worth the wait!

WE'RE IN NASHVILLE!!!

Ya'll (Like that? Come on! We're in the South!) know how much we love our Flip video! Our version of video blogging...enjoy a little bit of our trip. We'll post more later on today, but wanted you to see a little bit of what we've been doing. The convention center is huge, the classes for the most part have been amazing and the sites and food have been unbelievable. Check out this awesome site for some great food for your next road trip. I am beyond excited to be heading down to Nashville for the Imaging USA conference for photographers. This conference is full of information, new products, great ideas, etc. I'm so looking forward to going! Plus, I get to spend some time with a bunch of other photographers to talk about what's working and what's not in their studios.

I'm planning on taking copious notes, learning a ton of stuff and coming back to the studio on Thursday refreshed, refocused and ready to work to make 2010 the best year ever!

Life Preservers by Frameable Faces Photography

My Grandpa Louie was the best grandpa a kid could have.

Mostly because he was just hilarious. I remember he would put on these skits for me that would have me doubling over in laughter.

Grandpa Louie and I played a lot of gin rummy. He'd keep score under the headings, "you" and "me." It was great when I beat him because he'd curse with words that weren't swear words. "Sacramento, California!" was one of his big swears.

Grandpa's sister died a couple days before my bar mitzvah back in 1983, so he didn't dance. You're not supposed to dance during shiva. But he did chant the prayer over the bread and he talked on camera for the videographer for about 30 seconds or so. He talked along with my Grandma Lillian, who I loved very much.

I also was very close with my Grandma Ann. I remember our little "discussions" together when we would talk about practically everything. Grandma Ann made the greatest noodle kugle ever. Just crunchy enough on the outside, it was such a treat. She is also on that bar mitzvah video. Talking for only about 8 seconds, she said, "He's one-of-a-kind! That's it!" Of course, she was referring to me. There is also video of me dancing with Grandma Ann.

My Uncle Eddie was my dad's older brother and he was quite a character. Uncle Eddie talked on the video for only about 30 seconds and he was hilarious too.

They are all gone now. And I will cherish the memories I have of each of them always. The clips of them on that videotape are priceless to me. And I am so thankful I have them to show to my children. I wish the clips weren't so brief, though. I would give anything now to have had any one of us sit them down in front of a video camera to talk about their lives for an hour or two. It would be like a personal video documentary that I could show my kids, who are named after them. They could have learned about their great grandparents and maybe even gotten to know them on some level. That would be the greatest treasure of all.

We keep the memories of our loved ones alive when we pass down stories and reminisce. But as the years pass, our memories grow dim, generations pass, and these family histories erode. What could have been a really tough session....

Turned into a really great one! This is N and L. When their mom came in and booked their Christmas card session, she told me that L hates to have his picture taken. So when L DID come in and started saying that he wanted to leave, I thought for sure I had my work cut out for myself! Especially when he started telling me that I couldn't talk to him or play with his trucks, etc. I was thinking "Uh oh! I may have met my match!"

BUT-things quickly turned around when I put on my "Ally" charm. I had L smiling and laughing with his big brother.

We did a bunch of silhouettes at the beginning of the session just like their mom wanted (which I loved!!), and then we decided to take a little break so they could head down to Toys3 for a treat for being so good. N was all about making sure we were finished up by 6 so he could get his toys, so we made good on the promise.

Shortly after 6, I heard screaming and crying. Yep! As luck would have it, L really wanted an airplane and couldn't get one at that time. He was all out of sorts and was NOT a happy camper. We even had a super nice man stop by and offer to make him an airplane! This guy was a seriously great paper-airplane-maker! Is this what it means when they say "it takes a village to raise a child?" So N was appeased for a few minutes and we ended up having to negotiate with him for a bit more. Finally, I had a great idea!

Seeing as it was the night before Thanksgiving and most of the stores were closed, I had the boys yell "BOO!" at me. When they did, I screamed! They thought that this was the funniest thing ever and that was it! I got both boys in flat out HUGE smiles.

By the end of the session N and L didn't want to leave the studio. We got some unbelievable images and I know that S will be one happy mama! I even got a bunch of hugs from the boys on the way out! Did I mention how much I love my job?????

W-O-W!!! Talk about stunning!

These little girls are just adorable. Plus, the personalities of these little angels is just over the top awesome! They totally fit with everything we are here at the studio. Just totally fun little sweethearts.

Baby R was about the sweetest little girl ever. Her eyelashes are insanely long - like fake-eyelashes long. And her huge brown eyes were like little pools of adoration for her parents. She even came with her big "brother" Matisse. His images are coming, but when I say BIG brother...I'm so not kidding! He's a French Mastiff and was so much fun to have in the studio.

R's cousin's S, A and M were equally as much fun and just as beautiful! Poor M wasn't having much fun at all. She was crying and not acting herself...Poor thing wasn't herself either. After the session we found out that she had a double ear infection. I wouldn't be all smiley either if I had that going on. So M gets a re-do. That way, I'll totally be able to capture her in all of her cuteness.

S is the perfect little lady. She is supremely photogenic and was a pleasure to work with. She was rocking it out and was such a little diva! I can only imagine what she's going to be like when she gets a little bit older. Can you say STUNNING!!!???

Then there was A. To say that this little girl is a complete Rockstar would be a serious understatement. She was all about the camera and was mugging for it the whole time. What a face! She was a perfect little model, too. And was cracking me up the whole time!!!

Seriously, to be a mommy to any of these little girls...sheesh! Watch out, L and C! Your babies are gorgeous! And even better...they're sweet! Thanks so much for letting me share a day with you all. I had a blast with all of you!!!

Addition

Hey everyone!
My name is Amanda and I've just recently started working here at Frameable Faces, and I absolutely LOVE it!! I got lucky enough to assist Ally in a wedding shoot, and helped out at various studio sessions. Ally and Doug welcomed me into the Frameable Faces family, and it has been amazing. I hope to be a photographer as well someday so I feel Ally is the PERFECT person to shadow and learn from. Her work is simply awesome, and she puts so much effort into her photos really making them outstanding. Many people think photographers have it easy and have the best schedule...but watching behind the scenes I've learned that editing takes hours, and can sometimes take a few days to complete as well as the shoot itself (also traveling to the shoot & back, setting up/taking down, so on and so forth). I absolutely ADORE Ally & Doug (including Tony and Lacey) and appreciate all what they've done for me and I'm so excited to continue working for them! =] I'll update soon!

Uh oh!!! Double Trouble!!!

Ok, well not really double TROUBLE, but they were doubly cute! I was lucky enough to be able to work with Y and E a few days ago. They were so much fun and so delicious, too!

Y was the first to be photographed all by himself. His mommy said that he really didn't like to have his picture taken, but based on what I got, I'd beg to differ! Y is such a sweetie and only wanted to be with his sister...But she had other plans!

Princess E is a center spotlight girl! So that makes her, what?? Totally typical! She was a total star and I got so many super duper adorable images of this little munchkin!

E and Y have the prettiest eyes - total doe eyes, and you all know I'm a total sucker for doe eyes! And E had the BEST legs! So delicious!!!

So between Y's sugar sweetness and E's yummy little baby bod, their mama is in total baby heaven! I know I would be!!!

Two of my newest favorites

Meet A and K. These two came in to the studio and we just had a ball! We took some video of our session together so we do have DOCUMENTED proof of how much fun we had. A couldn't be a sweeter little boy. He was so relaxed and calm - a perfect little gentleman. Plus, just look at his amazing eyes. Seriously, could this kid look even more like an angel? My gosh!!!

Then we have K. She was a little ham! This little girl knows what she wants and thankfully, she was spot on! She is totally an inspiring fashionista! The red bow went with the red petti, the light one went with the green rainbow one...LOVED every minute of it! The image of her by herself was just an adorable silly K moment. I loved how she'd pulled that petticoat all the way up to her armpits!

Plus, I'm a total sucker for great big brown doe eyes. K was rockin' those. They were so big and full - like little pools!

These guys came in for a Christmas card session - I think mom is going to have a hard time choosing one for their card. There are so many to select from. I guess that's the punishment for having such cute kids!

The sweetest little pixie - Meet "J"

J came into the studio a few weeks ago (yes, I know I'm still way behind on blogging! Sorry!!!). She had the biggest brown "doe" eyes and was so cute! She was a little trooper and pretty much let us do whatever we wanted. She was quite the little model!

Doesn't she look like a little pixie? I swear all this little girl needs is a pair of wings and one of those cute Juliet caps and she could totally pass for a little fairy. Watch out Tinkerbell!!! J's in town!

I have so many more super cute images. It was hard to pick just 2 for the blog. But you'll just have to trust me that they get cuter and cuter. Enjoy this little sneak peak.

Sweet baby "C"

I got a call from L asking about newborn images of her new daughter C. I happen to LOVE working with newborns! Since newborns are only "new" for so long, I have to work them in where I can. And I was so happy to be able to do it, too!! Now, newborns take a lot of time to work with. And princess C was no exception. We needed to have her with a full belly and really warm. It took a bit of time, but we finally did it!!!

You can totally tell how much she loves her Daddy and how much she loves snuggling in to her mommy too. It's so nice to see families that are so in love with each other. Kind of gives you that warm fuzzy feeling, ya know?

We were even able to get a few shots in with C's big brother R, but those are reserved for the family first! I'll post those soon enough to the Frameable Faces group on Facebook.

So, in a quickie nutshell, I loved loved LOVED working with C. She's a total sweetheart and I totally enjoyed the time we spent together. She was a total love and let me hold her and squish on her for like 4 hours. It almost made me want another baby! Almost!!!

The "S" family - they should've been the "F" family...

because they were so much FUN! Seriously, I don't love shooting on Sundays simply because I like to hang out with my own family. But if shooting families like this one makes it a lot easier and so much fun! From the second they opened up their minivan door, I felt like I've known them for a very long time. H and A were a complete pleasure to work with. They were more like adults than kids. Very respectful and well mannered...exactly how we'd like our kids to be when they're 12 and 14.

Lucky, the wonder dog, was a fun addition to the session as well. He kept us on our toes for the whole 2 hours we worked together and was such a good sport. M's parents were in from out of town and they, too, were like old friends. Seriously, we had such a great time working with everyone during this session that when we left, I wanted to hang out with them some more! It was just that great!

I could go on and on about M and T, and their daughter and her sweet baby, too! We played some geography games to try to figure out if we knew each other from way back when, but came up a bit short. I bet if we had a little bit more time, we would've figured it out!

So, I'd be happy to write more about how much I liked this session and all the people involved, but that would take up so much room and I'd feel like I was gushing. So, just suffice it to say that we were able to capture some amazing images in our 2 hours together. I'd be so happy to work with these guys again! Just sayin'!

The G family...G for GORGEOUS!!!

And their last name, too, but GEEZ!!! What a beautiful family! These little girls are just simply stunning and their little brother??? OMG, what an adorable little boy! I actually had our intern say "I hope I have a little boy like that when I have kids."

B and J were loving up their photo session! B was all about being in charge. As an oldest child, I totally know where she's coming from! She was all about giving directions. And she did it with such a cuteness about her! She knew what she wanted and in turn, gave me some amazing images! What a face! Her and her sister, J, both...Faces of angels, I tell you!

J had a bit of a hard time when she got here to the studio with Nanni. But after a bit of warming up, she was ON! We'd totally bonded and I'd take her home in a sec, if Doug and her parents would let me!

A is just adorable. He has the most amazing brown eyes and was delicious. Could you just smush him??? Three words for Mr. A... Y. U.M.!

Mom and Dad, too. Just a truly beautiful family! And even without our intern starting just yet, we were able to get all of these baby beauties captured exactly how they are. They were great kiddos!

Complete and total cuteness!

That's what these three were. L, J and H came in on Saturday and we had such a great time even though they're football rivals! :)

L was a little ham and was all personality. He had me laughing as he was telling me that he was going to put ketchup, mustard and pepper on his toes so I wouldn't eat them. He was cracking me up! J was so sweet and you could tell that he really looked up to his big brother. He was so stinkin' cute and was just so easy going. Such a pleasure!

And then there was H. I don't think we got one bad image of her. She was smiling throughout the whole session and was just so "picture perfect!" Her little eyes just sparkled and her little smile was simply brilliant.

I can't wait to design their holiday card! That's really what this session was about. Getting that one special image of the three of them together. I think we got it! And then some!!!

A really cool generational photo session

So, I know I'm way behind in blogging my sessions, but I've just been so busy! It's a good problem to have but I hate being so late with it!

Anyways, I recently had the pleasure of photographing 4 generations of this amazing family. How special! Plus, they were incredibly cool and everyone was VERY well behaved. I love when families like this come in! They were all so nice and fun and we just had the very greatest time!

M contacted me on Facebook asking about a generational photograph and I was so happy to oblige! Especially when the family is like this one. Of course, I didn't know this when they booked but it was a very pleasant surprise! :)

The 'N' Family

I loved working with these guys! They were all cracking me up, and even though they're all beautiful, each one of them had something extraordinarily gorgeous about themselves. "S" showed how much he was completely and totally in love with his wife and their family. It was the sweetest thing! "E" is just totally innately a stunning lady. Everything about her is pretty. Her smile, her eyes, her skin, her smile....EVERYTHING!!!

It's no wonder that from these two parent's they got three of the most amazing children! "A" is an awesome brother. He was up for anything and was such an awesome model for me! What a cutie - Watch out ladies!!! :) "H" is a very smart young lady! We had a really great conversation about art and paintings...even told her I'd bring in some signed prints from a friend of mine who's an amazing artist. Plus, "H" has the prettiest eyes! Her eye color is just exquisite. And she's such a little ham, too! I have a few of her hamming it up for the camera!

And then we get to Miss "A"....This little girl had me cracking up almost the entire session. She was doing all sorts of little things to get everyone laughing. And not just the bunny ears behind everyone's heads. She's a really funny kid! I worked with her and "H" for dance pictures and A was cracking me up even then!!

So, I had another great day with some great clients. Families like these makes me really really appreciate my job! Did I mention recently that I LOVE MY JOB???

A nighttime senior session

As most of you already know, D is one of my ambassadors. Actually, he was my first one. He constantly cracks me up and we always have a great time when we shoot together. For this session he brought along his super cool and hilarious dad and his funny-as-all-get-out sister. To say that the laughs were flowing the entire time is a major understatement.

First off, as with most boys, the potty talk started immediately. When we got to the graffiti wall, and D posed right by some nasty words, the jokes started - left, right, up and down! All over the place. Railroad tracks..same thing. Except the reason for the laughs was a crazy "duck." Many jokes, and movie one liners wrapped up our very late night of shooting. All in all, a great time was had by all and this evening just reaffirmed AGAIN how much I love my job and how thankful I am to have such fun clients to share it with.

Thanks so much, D, A and T! I had such a great time with you all. T, you're an awesome light girl and A, thanks for always having my back on the 80's jokes, movie lines and songs!

"You must've been a beautiful baaaby"

That's what people are going to say about this princess when she gets older. She is a BEAUTIFUL baby! And what a sweetheart, too. I think I fell in love with her the second I saw her. She was cuddled up on her daddy's shoulder and gave me a coy little smile when she first got here. That was it! She stole my heart!

She was a bit tired because we ended up shooting right in the middle of naptime, so since they were a "basic plus" session, we were able to split the session. So she'll be back on Wednesday. I can't wait!!

OH!! One more cute "A" anecdote, I was bouncing her on my knees and she was cracking up, no naturally, I gave her a little smushin'. Would you believe that sweet little baby reached up and grabbed my face and pulled me closer! OMG!!! She's so freakin' sweet!!!!

OMG!!! Gene Simmons!!

Well, not really but this little guy did just recently work with him on his show "Family Jewels" when it was here in Detroit!

"C" came in to the studio yesterday with such exuberance. He came in doling out hugs and high fives - such an unbelievable boy! His personality totally shined throughout the session and I was so happy to be able to capture so many different animated expressions. I've never seen a little kid be so animated and so expressive! He was a total treat to work with!

After our studio session, we headed out to Long's Farm in Commerce Township. We shot all around the big brown barn. I mean, could he look any more like a model??? Even got a few images with his mom there!

So all in all, C's session was a great one. With the added bonus of seeing his mom whom I haven't seen in oh, about 20 years! Gosh, I love my job!!!

K's Senior session

K had her session today and when I first met her, I told her I was going to try something new with her session. I did and those images came out awesome, but I only have a few minutes to edit and I just randomly selected four. The "cool, awesome" ones unfortunately weren't picked. BUT, the ones that were, I think, are simply beautiful.

This young lady is quite amazing. She knows what she wants to do and seems to have a plan of how to do it. Including where she wants to go to school, two choices of where she wants to go, and what she wants to major in. That's an accomplishment in and of itself! Who knows what they want to do for the rest of their life at such a young age? Obviously someone who's incredibly driven! And that's what K is! She's got an unreal head on her shoulders! What a bright, shining star!

So this blog post unfortunately has to be shorter than I'd like it to be. It's 8:30 pm and I haven't been home yet today. But I promise, that I'll post some of the awesomely cool images sometime this week. In the meantime, here are the four images that did get randomly selected.

C's Senior session

To say that I was beyond excited to do C's session today would be a serious understatement. First off, he's a football player. Anyone who knows me, knows that I LOVE football players. I love the physique of football players, I love the competitiveness of football players, I love watching football players...Heck, I MARRIED a football player! So when C's sister came in to sell us an ad for the high school yearbook and told us that she'd send her brother, who's a football player, in to do his senior session, I was super excited!

Add to that the new idea that I had to try out. I lit him on fire! Well, not him personally, but I lit his football on fire and his helmet on fire! I think I officially became a pyromaniac due to C's session! :)

He came in with his whole family, too, which made us really happy, as well. How cool is it to be that tight knit of a family that you'd want to be there for your siblings photo session or to want your family to be there, too. We all instantly bonded. It was a great day!

Even though C hardly muttered a word to me, I still think he had a pretty good time. I was glad that he was up for our pyrotechnics and I was thrilled with how this session turned out.

These three images are among my favorites, but my new favorite of all favorite image is the long skinny image. What do you think? Which one is yours?

My first Camera Class!

So today, I was able to work with a young woman who called about how to use her camera. It was pretty cool, if I don't say so myself! And pretty refreshing to have someone who wanted to know how to REALLY use her camera. She has a little point and shoot from Canon and wanted to know how to use it in manual! How cool is that??? Someone who's actually interested in how the camera works instead of just putting it in auto and going from there.

We talked all about aperture and how to use it to control the depth of field, and how to use the shutter speed to control motion, too. We also played around a bit with the two live models I brought in for her. Thank goodness for my own two muses! :) They totally rocked it out!

So, all in all, we only worked together today for about an hour or so, but she learned a lot of information that she didn't know before. That made me super happy! So happy, in fact, that I'm seriously considering doing some more classes like this. Let me know if you or anyone else you know would be interested.

J's Senior session

As you already know, J is one of my senior ambassadors. We've already had one session and this was the one for his yearbook - his TRUE senior session.

We went to one of my all time favorite spots - an old barn on a working farm. Very cool! When we first pulled up, we had a visitor named Lucy. Lucy is a goose (and her name or his name for that matter, probably isn't really Lucy! Just changed the name to protect the innocent!!) and she was guarding the farm. She was pretty protective too, if I don't say so myself!! I'll try to post a picture of Lucy Goosey later on. This blog will be an ammended blog post for J!!

So after our discussion with Lucy, we made our way to the barn. I never realized how many very cool places around the barn there were! SO many!! J and I chose a few and started shooting! We got some absolutely amazing images together and these are just three of those.

We ended up shooting for three hours even though people have told me that there is no way that a guy will end up or last for three hours. Well, peeps, I beg to differ with ya! Even after three hours, J was still lookin' good!

I meant to do that....

I recently had a close family member say to me "This is such a cute picture! It's too bad his head is cut off here at the top. I bet his mother would've ordered it if you hadn't cut his head off." When I gave my answer, "I meant to do that", she questioned why?

Sometimes, the focus isn't supposed to be on the cute outfit a child is wearing. Or the fact that that sweet little girl is off center...It just makes the image much more interesting. When I photograph a session, I want the final images to "call" to the parents, grandparents and the person who's seeing them. So sometimes, I'll crop a little closer in on the head. And I even do it on purpose!!

As I went on to explain further, I remembered an article that was written by another photographer in Baltimore. So, here it is. It perfectly describes me, and most professional photographers.

I Meant To Do That

Make no mistake, my work is unique! I have a style of my own and it is somewhat uncoventional. My clients are usually looking for something fresh, stylish and more contemporary than what many “traditional” photographers offer.

That being said, there are some things you may notice when looking at my work that is different from what you might be accustomed to…

“Tight Crops” – This means super close close-ups where often the face fills most of the frame of the image. These images are about the eyes, and often the top of the head is not included in the image. I meant to do that!

“Not-So-Smiley”- So many of us have been brought up to believe that a smile is a requirement to make a great photo. So not true! I love a pensive look as much as a big grin. I meant to do that!

“Let’s Be Negative” – Negative space is when the subject is placed off to the side of an image and the rest of the image is empty—this is done for artistic impact. I meant to do that!

“Left of Center”- The most boring position for a subject in a photograph is smack dab in the middle! I know, I know, not what you always thought, right? Trust me! There is a little something in design called the Rule of Thirds that we photographers often employ to enhance visual interest. The rule states that an image can be divided into nine equal parts by two equally spaced horizontal lines and two equally spaced vertical lines (like a tic-tac-toe board). The four points formed by the intersections of these lines can be used to align features in the photograph. Aligning a photograph with these points creates more tension, energy and interest in the photo than simply centering the feature would. Huh? Trust me, your child does not need to be right in the center of an image for it to be a good portrait! I meant to do that!

“The Light in the Eyes” The hallmark of good portrait photography is good lighting, and the hallmark of good lighting is something called a “catchlight,” – a reflection of light in the eyes. I love big catchlights! I purposely position my lights for the best and largest catchlights, especially for close-ups. Flip through any parenting or glamour magazine and look at the eyes—what do you see? Big bright catchlights! A lack of catchlights leaves the eyes looking flat, dull and lifeless. I meant to do that!

There you have it. I couldn't have written this better myself. This little article perfectly describes everything I think, and do, when it comes to my photo sessions.

So, my dear, sweet, loving family member who said that the image would've been better had I not "chopped" that sweet little boys head off...His mama loved it! (Yay!!!)

And, guess what else??? I meant to do that!!! :)

Princess "K's" session

When I first met K with her mom a few months ago, I was hoping that she'd book a session with me. I was beyond excited when R called and booked for this past weekend!

K's mom was a little bit worried that K wouldn't cooperate for her session and that we'd be hard pressed to get some decent images. Well, we got way more than a few!! Just about every image that we captured is better than the next!!! Her session was amazing and we had such a great time! I loved that we had to keep bribing her with Smarties and that she kept begging "Please, mama, PLEEEASE!!!" She had me cracking up the whole time!

And then we went on location to a friends house with an absolutely stunning yard. Wow!!! Those images aren't quite edited yet, but WHEW...Are they gorgeous!!! We even got some super adorable shots with K's big sister M. Like I said earlier, each image is prettier than the last.

"S" Senior session

This time when I was working with "S", we got some amazing shots!!! She looked gorgeous and even though we couldn't get into Cranbrook, we were still able to find some beautiful spots to work. That was an adventure in and of itself!

I'm so pleased with the results of this session and I think that S and her parents will feel the same. She'd just returned from camp and was raring to go!! I wish I could look and feel like this great after a night out! :)

So, it's back to editing! These are just a few of my favorites from the day. I think she's so pretty and I can't wait to finish editing the rest!

A sneak peak from S's senior session

"S" is back!!! I had the best time working with her! She's simply stunning and such a sweetheart, too! S is one of my ambassadors and I'm so glad that she is! I think we missed a couple of shots, so I'm going to have to have her back for the ones that we missed based on the time that we had! And I think that my senior sessions are going to go from 2 hours to 3 hours. So we can get everything that we need!

I'm on a quest. My quest is to find some new cool props. I have some suggestions for firemen's gear, chef's hat with a wooden spoon and whisk, red wagon, any sort of sports hats - be it baseball, football - sporting good paraphrenalia, etc. Also a cute idea from a past client was some old "Clark Kent" type glasses with the Wall Street Journal.

So, hit me up! What do YOU think are some cute prop ideas?

Just one from this afternoons session...

Today I got to work with a friend of mine that I've known since I was about 11 years old. She's in town with her new baby from Texas for our 20 year high school reunion. Yesterday, I got to meet Miss "M" for the first time and I was awed at how pretty she was and how much of a blessing this little sweetheart is.

I shouldn't be surprised at little M's beauty - I thought her mommy was the prettiest girl in school (and I'm not just saying that!!!). Her mom is as pretty on the inside as she is on the outside and little Miss is going to be just the same way.

M came in today with her grandma, too. It's always so much fun to be around grandma E! Such a blast...the three of us were cracking up for almost the entire session!

When I finish editing the rest of M's images, I'll post back. It's almost midnight and I'm totally capitalizing on the fact the my own kids are away at camp, so I'm still working! But enough is enough for one night, so I'll leave you with this one image. I happen to think it's studio worthy. M is smiling her big bright smile...that in and of itself should make it great. But if you look closely, you'll notice what I initially thought was her Mommy's earring. It's not!!! I love when these precious little moments get caught!

Baby H....

Princess H came into the studio today for the first time. I've known her forever - even before she was born - and I photographed her mom's maternity session. She's simply beautiful! We had the best time today, even though Miss H decided not to sleep at all! But we did manage to get her to sleep for about 10 minutes so we could catch a couple cute ones of her!

She'll be back when she's 6 months old so you'll be able to watch her grow up with me. If you join my Facebook group, you'll be able to see the rest of her session as soon as they're all edited.

The "A" Family's Sneak Peak

A few weeks ago, I met a really nice lady who walked into the studio and asked me about photographing her, her husband and their grandchildren. Today, they all came in and did we ever have a great time.

"H" had all of us laughing through out the entire session with his awesome sense of humor. He is truly in love with his wife and it was really pretty special for me to see this family at work. "E" tried really hard to reign in all the boys (H included!) to get some really great images for her wall. Well, it worked and we got a bunch of great ones.

"A" and her younger brother "J" totally reminded me of my own kids. It was so funny to see how they related to each other and even though "J" thought it burned when I asked "A" to put her arm around him, I could totally tell that he really does love her!

Then there was "J" and "J". What a couple of amazing little guys! Big "J" was just about the sweetest young man EVER and was such a trooper. He kept going and going even though he really wanted to go down to Toys 3! Little "J", I think I totally fell in love with. There was at least two times that I counted that he came up to me and grabbed my legs from behind with a great big hug.

Don't even get me started on how fabulous all these kids moms were. WOW!!! It was pretty easy to see how these boys and one young lady got to be as wonderful as they are.

I think I can honestly say that when they came in at 9:30 this morning, they were clients. When they all left at about 12, they were friends.

A photo secret to share...

So, I've been thinking that it'd be kind of interesting to share some of what I've learned throughout the years about photography. Here's one of the most important bits, I think.

Take a look at any magazine. Check out the cover model. Of course that person looks beautiful and all, but check out the eyes. What do you notice? In every single photograph the person has some sort of white light in the eyes. Sometimes, they're square. Sometimes circular. They can even be shaped like an octagon. The point is, they're always there. Those catch lights make the model look alive. If a model is lacking those catchlights, the eyes look "dead." Not exactly a look most people are going for, unless of course they're photographing in the morgue for forensic photography or something.

The other type of catch lights are called "Pin" lights. Those are found in images that use a pop up flash or the flash on the smaller digital cameras that most everyone has. Those pin lights aren't bad...just different. Pin lights almost always show up in the center of the pupil as alittle orange dot. Most true professional photographers know how to use the flash correctly to avoid the pin lights, which in my opinion, look amateurish.

A professional photographer will have catchlights in the model's eyes (from studio lights) at either the 10 o'clock or 2 o'clock position (or somewhat close to that). If that photographer is shooting outdoors, the catchlights will have much different shapes or may not even have a true "shape" at all. Just some really nice light in the eyes.

That's one thing I"m always striving for and one thing I've learned to look for. Nice, good catch lights. So whether you choose to work with me or anyone else, be on the look out for cool catch lights. In my opnion, it's one of the differences between a professional and an amateur.

The "S" brothers...

Were just so cute and a blast to work with! I have a sister so I've not been truly able to see how two older aged brothers are together. These two had me in stitches! They were cracking me up with their antics and their conversations, too. It was so much fun to see how close these two guys are to each other and how much they genuinely seem to LIKE each other.

Even though the session didn't go exactly how mom and grandma planned, I was still able to get a bunch of really great images. These are just a few and I usually post the images that are great, but not my favorites. With this session, though, I think I'm going to have a really difficult time trying to figure out which ones AREN'T my favorites. They're all that good!

What a couple of cute, sweet boys. I can't wait to come back in to the studio tomorrow to edit some more of these!!

So glad grandma won that gift certificate! I think it was a win-win-win!

A's senior session

Meet A. We had THE best time working together. He just "got it" and was completely comfortable in front of the camera. I don't think we had any bad shots! Makes for a very difficult time editing, ya know?

A definitely came with some locations in mind, too. So now I have even more awesome locations to select from! Woo hoo! A was a major trooper and didn't even seem to mind getting rained on and scratched up while getting to a pretty cool brick wall! LOVE that!!

With his amazing sense of style and his ease in front of the camera, I'm going to have to stop blogging about him and get back to editing! This was a session that was jam packed with style and personality!

J's senior mini session sneak peak

This is "J." He's a perfect example of a truly multi faceted person. He's an accomplished musician, active in his high school's band as the drum major and is incredibly smart and talented. We had a great time shooting together and he was such a trooper! We schlepped all over the exterior of the mall to scope out some great locations to work in and we found some nice ones...but those are going to remain hidden for just a little while longer!

J kept us steadily entertained by talking about his eclectic music tastes and even introduced us to a couple new bands that we'd never heard of before. Just another thing to add to the music wish list!

I can't wait to get to editing the rest of J's session - there are a ton of really nice images from his session...And I just can't get enough of his baby blues! **SWOON**

L's Senior Session sneak peak

L was referred to me by my current ambassador and she assured me that he was great. Well, she was right! L had me cracking up left and right!

First off, he's an incredible person. He's really into the theatre and athletics, and anything Raider, which automatically hit home with me since I'm a Raider, too!

We had such a fun time together from the clothing changes to the mini voyeur (she was all of about 2 years old) who had her eye on L when he was changing his shirt in the front window...I can't wait to work with him again. OH! And it doesn't hurt at all that he's a pretty darned good looking guy!!

I knew that we were going to have an awesome shoot and we totally did! She's absolutely stunning and is just the sweetest thing ever! S is going to be a senior at NFHS in the fall and is my newest senior ambassador. She's super active and does a ton of extra curriculars...like plays, Poms, etc. She's truly one cool girl!

I can't wait to do another session with her. We had the best time and got so many awesome shots, but these are just a few. I have about 60 more to edit on top of the 10 that I already have! They just keep getting better and better...I can't wait to get back here to edit some more!

D's senior session

D's graduating from Wyandotte high school in a few weeks and then he's off to college. He's got a bright future ahead of him - he's got brains, brawn and looks...what else could any potential employer want, right?

The "G" siblings...

To say that this session was a ton of fun would be an understatement. These three had me rolling! They were so funny and they all got along so well! You could definitely see how much they all loved each other and even better than that, they truly seemed to LIKE each other!

R is so funny and I feel like I've known him for a long time. He's just so at ease with himself and his younger sister and brother. You can just tell that he's the protector!

S is simply stunning. I could've taken pictures of her all day! Her long curly hair is so beautiful and she's just a lovely young lady. Someone you could totally trust your kids with.

B is the ham of the group. This little man is all personality. He's truly a funny little kid and the chemistry he had with the other two had me laughing all the way throughout their session.

A Couple Cute Cousins - SNEAK PEAK

Well, it's really three, but that title sounded so much better! So these three came into the studio over the weekend. I is the oldest and she was the anchor of Z and Z. They both wanted to be right by her. It was very sweet. You could feel the love that they all had for each other!

This session is a gift for some very special people. So I was very honored to be able to have a part in it. Master "Z" - he could've been a Gap model. I loved his long blond hair and even though he was super silly (just like all 7 year old boys!) we had a great time together and got a bunch of super great images of him, too! His baby blues just POP out at you!

Miss "Z"...what a little personality! She was striking poses and was one of the easiest little girls I've ever worked with. She really knew how to work it out in front of the camera! Needless to say, I got a bunch of great images of her!

Ok, so, this image here of Miss "I," she's got such a beautiful smile, and I had a hard time deciding which image to use for the blog. This one was the winner. No smiles, BUT her eyes in this image are simply amazing. I feel like you can see right into her soul. Such beauty in this young lady!

I know that this session will produce an absolutely stunning gift. They're going to have a hard choice to make and it's going to be pretty hard to choose just one!

Sneak a peak at my newest ambassador!

Meet D! He's going to be a senior next year and is the newest Frameable Faces ambassador. We had the best time today - found the coolest spot in West Bloomfield and had our own little adventure. We got to work out in the "elements" and thankfully, D brought his incredibly fun (and really young looking :) Dad with him. So I had a great built-in reflector holder.

The sneak peak of Master S

Master S won a gift certificate from Playhouse Theater a few months ago and when I saw that it was he who won it, I was more than excited! What a sweet little face! Today, he came in with his mom and grandma and we had a little bit of fun. I found out that he's having a birthday next week, that his favorite color is purple and that he has two kitties! We got a whole bunch of really great images, and as promised, I'm showing two of them here as a sneak peak.

She's baaaack!

B and J's Engagement session

Today, I got to work with B and J. They're getting married this coming up August and asked me to do their engagement images. To be very honest, I thought I had my work cut out for me with B. I heard that he wouldn't smile. But, he definitely did! How could he not with his adorable fiancee right next to him!? We had a great time, and even though we had an audience for part of the session, we were all able to loosen up and get some amazing shots of them. These are just a few - enough to get just a glimpse into their relationship. What a couple of fun people!

Queen A - Sneak Peak

I was so excited to finally get to work with the Queen! She's all smiles and we had the best time playing! She's just the sweetest baby and seriously about all the images that we captured are great! Her parents are going to have a really hard time deciding which ones to choose! There are just so many great ones!

I loved everything about her. Her smell, her smile, her little baby mullet! EVERYTHING! We were having such a good time here in the studio that we had a little audience going! "A" had an admirer come in and help us out. Our visitor was really into our session and she was loving all over "A" - and "A" was totally loving her, too!

Miss M and Master E...

Last week, I got to play with M and E. M has the same birthday as me...albeit a couple years later, so we share a bond that few other amazing ladies do! And E! Well, the first time I saw him after NOT seeing him since he was about 2 weeks old, he came up to me and gave me a big hug! PUt his little head right down on my shoulder and let me squish on him. What a sweetie!!!

So when we had our session, none of us was feeling up to par. We ended up cutting it short, but we're going to do it again soon. BUT, we did end up getting a few cute shots off! Here are just a few to hold you over until our next session.

Sneak a peak at the "B" family!

I've known "C" since we were 9 years old, and now both of us have kids that are that age. Crazy how fast time goes by! Anyways, we had such a great time together. C and A have two cute kids with such fun personalities. M is all girl...she even came to the studio with makeup on and had to take a break to freshen up her hair! Love it!!! M is a rockstar gymnast. You should see the muscles on this little man. He's a little ROCK! A was totally enamored with his wife, C. The love that oozed out of him as he spoke about her was amazing. Such sweet words and so nice to hear.

C was cracking me up about stories from when we were younger and how we ended up where we are now. Who knew that both of us would be great cooks when NEITHER one of our mom's could boil noodles! :) (Just kidding, mom and B! Well...kinda!)

I'm just about finished editing their entire session, but these were a few of my favorites. I'm sure there'll be even more favorites after these!

So yesterday, I put together a little slideshow of pretty little princess F. I absolutely love how it came out and I wanted to share it. And I'm loving this artist that I found. Leslie's music is amazing. I've used it for a few different slideshow's that I've done.

Fash Bash birthday parties for girls

You'll definitely want to get in on this one! What could be more fun for your daughter, granddaughter, niece or best friend than a FASH BASH party!?

I've partnered with Guys N Gals to be able to offer this very fun party. Each girl will be able to pick her own outfit from Guys N Gals to wear for a mini photo session. During the party, the girls who aren't having their photos made will decorate either a picture frame (ages 6-9/10) or create a scrapbook page (10-17) for the birthday girl. The frames will be used to beautifully showcase each girls final image (4x5/4x6). The scrapbook pages will be compiled and presented to the birthday girl a the end of the party. Images of the girls will be available to the hostess in about 7-10 days from the party, and are eligible to upgrade to an 8x10 if a viewing session is scheduled by her parents.

Best of all, the birthday girl will receive an 8x10 image of herself from her session and she's able to purchase her outfit from Guys N Gals at a 20% discount!

I had the cutest little girl in today!

So as I was sitting in the studio planning my marketing strategies for this year, cute little "A" strolled in with her sweet mom "J." We started chatting about a cute little sweater that A had on and then A spotted my pink petticoat "tutu's" hanging on the wall. We booked a session on the spot and tried to get some cute images. We were able to get a couple off before A decided that she'd had enough and crawled back into her stroller and started chilling out. This one is my favorite from our mini-mini session today. But she'll be back next week and we'll get lots more!

D's Sneak Peak

When I tell you that I was so excited when J called me to do D's senior images, I'm not lying. I shot his Bar Mitzvah 5 years ago and wow has he grown up!

What a fun session we had in the studio! He brought his trumpet with him and people in the mall were popping in the studio talking to him about it...And he hadn't even played it here! I guess you can just smell talent when it's around.

D's off after he graduates. He's headed overseas for a year to study. I told his mom that he'll probably come home with a wife if he's not careful! What a sweetheart of a guy and he's not bad to look at either!! :)

Today's the last day of 2008. I hope that the new year brings all of you peace, health and prosperity.

Princess "F" or Princess Kitty

Remember her? She came in the very first day I was in my new studio at Orchard Mall. I got to photograph her with her BFF "I." What a couple of cuties I got to shoot that day!

On Sunday, I was able to photograph F all by herself. We had a great time at our session even though Miss Princess was very tight lipped! She didn't speak even a little bit! Silly girl! But we had lots of fun despite the lack of conversation.

She's just simply adorable! What a beautiful girl. She brought her flower girl dress and her Christmas dress and then we donned my favorite! The pink petticoat!

Princess Kitty was all about the woodland creatures when she first came in, so we had to capture those this time, too. What a sweet angel she is!

Daddy's going to have to watch out later on for this one! She's a beauty!!!

Pretty as a flower, "I" 's session

Last week, I had the fabulous pleasure of photographing "I". She was my second session on a very hectic day. And I was so worried that her session wouldn't go well based on everything that happened during the morning! WOW, was I wrong! After the addition of some new lights, since the old ones exploded earlier that day, I captured Miss Personality. She even brought her friend along with her for some fun shots.

So, here's Lady "I." She was a blast and totally ended my day on a high note. I was SO very thankful!

I had this session with sweet little E on Sunday. She came in and was a bit sad, but had some food and all was good! She was clowning around in front of the camera for a good long time! On Friday, I was super lucky to work with A and T. When they walked into the studio, I was SO excited to photograph them for their Christmas cards. What absolutely gorgeous children! And what little personalities. A is a little mommy - very sweet to her little brother, and T was making me laugh the entire time! What a little ham!

I love when my sessions are like this! Sweet kiddos, fun parents. I love my job!

"Z" Sneak Peak

Couldn't help that play on words there! This is the Z family. What a fun session to have! Even Grandma R got in on it! I and L are incredibly full of personality as you can clearly see, and E,M and R (who just happen to be great friends of ours!) were naturals in front of the camera.

They just had to get into the studio during November so they could participate in the promotion. So great and very much appreciated! At the end of the day, L discovered my cute pink pettis and donned one for her own little mini mini session. So much fun!!!

Everyone had a great time in the studio and during the session...Be on the lookout for these guys! They're all destined for GREAT things!!
